Woman “Empowered” Business
I was in dire need of a planner (because, you know, it’s a thing and my smartphone won’t suffice). And so, I purchased one on the super handy Staples website: a nicely sized colorful paperback 2020 planner. Amongst the brushed strokes of purple, white, orange and gold printed all around the cover, there was a Laurel Thatcher Ulrich quote embedded in black. It firmly stated, “WELL BEHAVED WOMEN RARELY MAKE HISTORY.” Bold, I thought (and in bold it was printed).
DANGER ALERT: It got me thinking.
Actually, it first reminded me: Service Keepers is a woman-owned business. And then it got me thinking: we’ve come a long way.
This blog isn’t meant to wave the bright feminist flag in the misogynistic face of everyone who’s ever doubted us (although, that would be nice). Rather, this is a celebration.
We have so many women who have made a difference in the business and how Service Keepers is operated. Let’s start off with the people out on the field, GETTING THINGS DONE: our employees. Did you know that close to 70% of our on-the-field employees are women? Fact. Here’s another fact: over half of our Site Supervisors are also women. The numbers describe us perfectly; as the fearless leaders we know we are.
But wait, there’s more!
Now, onto the women behind the scenes ALSO GETTING THINGS DONE. Most of the departments in Service Keepers are operated or co-operated by women: finance, human resources, integration and even operations. With the task of overseeing numerous accounts, I don’t have to tell you that it’s not an easy job (I told you anyway, just in case).
In today’s world, women are doing more than we or anyone else (anti-women) ever imagined. We’re dropping the “trophy wife” and picking-up all sorts of abbreviations: MD, J.D., DDS, PsyD, etc. We’ve come a long way, but we have a long way to go, too. Service Keepers hopes to serve as an example that anything is definitely possible for anyone – sorry, boys.
